Hardware
The N900 has a Texas Instruments WL1251 wireless card.
Software
The wireless card is controlled at the lowest level by the kernel module wl12xx. The daemon osso-wlan manages the wifi interface.
This is documented here. This daemon is managed by ICd to control the internet connectivity of the phone. wl1251-cal may also be of interest.
