I don't think it makes sense to optify SSH. SSH could be used to debug problem bootup problems and one of them may be /home (with opt) not getting mounted.

I would also recommend using LZO packed sizes of the package contents as the rootfs is compressed. Non-compressed package size, or the size reported by dpkg are bogus in regards to disk usage. Script attach to https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5795 bug might help in estimating the compressed size.
